Hello Denmark,
Usually new releases of software are backwards compatible with OS.

Photoshop comes in two versions, "Limited Edition" LE, which is RGB only and
will not do CMYK
separations, as well as other limitations such as it will not permit multiple
file openings at
the same time, and multiple tiling on the screen, but generally if you do not
need CMYK
separations then LE is good enough. LE retails for about $350 -$400, and I have
ver 5 LE (Win
& mac) available for $50.

FE is the full blown CMYK professional version, with all the bells and
whistles, and is
considerably more expensive to buy. That is why an upgrade or cross grade to
Ver 7 is the
cheapest way to go.

Academic version just means schools buy the same at cheaper price. Adobe is
subsidising the
education system as a good corporate citizen should.

Best regards,
Ted Burbidge
