*heh* this is part FYI and part cry for help ... I'm trying to install ASIP 6.3.1 (6.1 updated via software) onto a G4 (400mhz AGP) Mac. I'm not adverse to purchasing ASIP 6.3.3 (see below), but I'm not sure this server is going to be required in 12 months time, so I'm reluctant to shell out lots of money, especially for OS X Server.
--- What I learnt today ... 1. Appleshare IP 6.1 won't run on anything past 8.6 (due to it's OT requirements - even intalling OT on a 9+ OS won't work) 2. 400mhz G4 AGP machines won't run anything earlier than 9.0.4. 3 = 1+2: You can't get Appleshare 6.3.1 (generated via software upgrades) running on a G4. ... 4. Appleshare IP is a discontinued product. 5. There's an offer on the Apple Australia website stating you can mail off a coupon to receive ASIP 6.3.3 (clean install) ... but it costs $40, and can take 8 weeks for delivery (I'd like it this week). 5. The Applestore reps know nothing of this offer, and when you try and direct them to the page with the offer, they say it's a US site page (They don't understand that when currency is displayed with 'AU', it means 'Australian' ;-) see: http://www.apple.com.au/appleshareip/buy.html#633upgrade Instead the rep suggested I pay $495.00 for a (500 user licence when I only want 50) upgrade to ASIP 6.3.3.
