Hiya all, Totally off topic, but this one just blows me away... figured I'd pass it around.
I was just talking on the phone with a lady up north. She recently took her Performa 5260 to the local PC shop to get some more RAM put in. Being a PC person, the shop owner didn't know off hand exactly what RAM the Performa takes, so said he would have to research it. His eventual conclusion was that it required some sort of special chip that he had to get specially from Thailand. When this chip arrived a few weeks later, he charged her $395 for the chip, and then $65 (ie one hour) for labour. This lady's Performa now has 32 meg instead of the original 16. That's right, she's paid $460 for a 16 meg, 72 pin SIMM. It's one of the most common memory chips ever made, and was used in both Macs and PCs in the mid 90s. That same SIMM retails from Apple for $38.50, and takes about 10 seconds to put in! And you thought you paid too much for something last time....
