Hi Brett, The original 400 and 500Mhz TiBook did have a fairly serious problem with the FireWire controller, which would intermittently fry itself. This usually means a logic board replacement.
The newer 550 and 667's do not have this or any other problem that I know of. I have now owned two TiBooks and both of them have been pretty solid. I will be buying my third as soon as I sell my current 550. Some people think they are a bit flimsy, but as long as you treat then with care, they are a very solid machine.
