Hi... Some more updates based on observations at the weekend:
Disk Utility now lets you verify or repair privileges on the boot disk (so you don't need Apple's Privilege Repair utility). Of course this is only on the boot disk, so if you've hosed your boot disk by setting the privileges inappropriately, you're still doomed to have to go through resetting everything by hand :)
