Help I need some advice
What is the secret to closing down an iMac using 9.0.4.
The desk top has lost its icons & I have no idea which keys to press
to shut it down or restart or can I just turn off the power at the
wall.

Try pressing the power button
or
try holding down control and command keys and pressing the power button
or
using the reset button inside the hatch where all the cables plug
into the side of the iMac (on an older iMac you may need to poke a
paperclip into the reset hole, (labelled with a circle with a 'v' in
it) make sure you've checked the documentation first!)
You should of course try to work out why your iMac is needing
resetting whenever it's shut down though!
