Local Google search site launched Kate Mackenzie DECEMBER 24, 2002 GOOGLE has quietly launched an Australian site, google.com.au. Most Australian internet users typing in the google.com address will be re-directed to the local site, which allows them to restrict searches to Australian websites. The search engine has advertised for one staffer to look after sales inquiries and customer service, but spokeswoman Debbie Frost said it was too early to tell whether more staff would be hired here. Google operates local sites in many countries, but Ms Frost said the Australian site had already generated more inquiries than sites for Finland, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore, which also debuted this month. -- MacTherapy Australia Pty Ltd ACN : 101-488-635 Phone - ++61 (0)414 487256 Fax (Australia) ++61 (0)8 6210 1533 US Phone ++1 206 666 5622 Fax (International) ++1 208 493 7821 P.O BOX 381.
