Access Epson Printer from Classic

When I boot up in OSX10.2 and then start up an OS9 application the 
Chooser can "see" the Epson C61 USB printer but selecting the icon 
does not make it active in the RHS of the window.

When in OS9 I can print from the Epson.
Is there some extension in the OSX-Classic environment that is not 
active and should be or is the problem more complex?

Suggestions please.
