Seeing as you have done a clean install of Sys 8.6 one of Apple's suggestions to avoid screen freezes is to trash the file Desktop Printer Spooler.
Also I reinstall Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in such stressful times. This can usually be done with Microsoft Self Repair, which is probably in your machine somewhere. Outlook Express has a folder called Identities which you should duplicate entirely and put somewhere safe to preserve your email and other stuff. I backup that file every week. Also save your "Favourites" in Internet Explorer before running Microsoft Self Repair. Saving favourites can be done after opening up "Organise favourites". A reinstall of all plugins like Shockwave and Real Player with the latest versions can save further hassles. Quicktime is available in a more recent version than came on the original Apple clean install disk, as is Acrobat reader. An quick and easy way to get the latest versions of all these apps is to go to a newsagent and buy a magazine such as MacFormat with the appropriate stuff on a CD. Remember, save Identities and your favourite bookmarks befor doing anything. Regards, Paul.
