I have a UMAX Astra 1220S SCSI scanner which I am now running under
OSX with VueScan.
Previously under OS9 there was an option in the UMAX Control Strip to
put the scanner into a powersave mode with the lamp switched off but
this was greyed out and unavailable. Enquiries to UMAX agent locally
elicited the reply that an $80 hardware modification would make this
available but it was best to just switch off the power when not in
use to save the lamp which has a limited life. I took that advice.
Lo and behold, in OSX I note that the lamp goes off by itself and
except immediately after reboot it does not come on till I call it
up by starting VueScan.
I see this as a real bonus. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
