If you take the OS8.5 Install followed by the OS8.6 upgrade, you should also follow that with an OS8.6 Update which does a font fix.
My OS8.5 / 8.6 used to corrupt the System File occasionally until I applied the Update I don't know about the full OS8.6 install CD Bob.
