Howdy,
I have a friend who's looking into a laptop for university / project /
honours work, however, he's not sure whether to go for a Mac or Windows
machine. Obviously I''d like to see him go Mac so I was hoping someone
might be able to suggest a setup based on his requirements, included
below.
Cheers!

Subject: MAC stuff - the dark side is calling to me
Dude,
Well here's what I want/need.
Firstly, software won't be a problem because I can get it all through
uni except OS9, which I need to run the Molecular Biology programs.
Needs to be portable (i.e. a laptop)
CD burner
DVD burner NOT necessary but a DVD reader would be nice.
A network card so I can plug straight into the uni and hospital
networks
but wireless network is not needed.
Lots of RAM because I'll be having a number of programs running at the
same time when using the Mol Biol applications (like more than 4 or 5
programs running simultaneously). If I was buying a PC I'd specify
512MB of RAM, so whatever would be a MAC equivalent if that is at all
possible!?
Don't need a huge hard drive or a huge display (currently working on a
PC with a 20GB hard drive of which I've managed to use 3.5GB; and has a
14" monitor).
Is that enough info for you tiger?
