On the thorny subject of printers,
Among my collection is an Apple Personal LaserWriter (circa 1991) which
has done fine doing low volume stuff eg a couple of dozen pages once a
week since I acquired it in late 1997. Its only function in life is to
print reports from a gadget which is run by a 486. This uses a generic
HP LaserJet driver which has until now worked well.
It has become increasingly quirky and today started printing big black
bars across things. It also makes a kind of scrunchy papery noise but
still puts out non-scrunched sheets. To my knowlege it has never been
formally serviced although the cartridge has been replaced.
Question 1: is this printer dying?
Question 2: does it sound worth servicing?
and Q3: any utilities anyone knows of which can do diagnostics on it
under OS9?
