I can't help you with the name of the menu icon file.
However, I've had some fun using favicons, that is short for 'Favorites
Icon ,the little images in the address bar. They might need to be the
same size as the images you are trying to use.
The format used must be: a very simple image, in a square.
16 colours in the palette
16x16 pixels in size
but start 64 x 64 (or multiple of 16) and then reduce.
Convert your .bmp or .gif file to the .ico file extension, with a
programme that does that. Eg Photoshop Pro does if you Add Windows Icon
(ICO) file format Photoshop plugin to export the special file format.
Download this donationware from Telegraphics
<http://www.telegraphics.com.au/sw/> and install the plugin with the
included instructions .
For those interested in favicons
Note: won't show up in IE until the page is saved as a favourite,
You can make favicons in any graphics programme, save as ico file
Be sure to post the favicon.ico file to the root of your site and not
as an external file or if you want it in another folder the Directory
where the page is
You need to put this in the html source You enter the code above your
Head tag.
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico"/>
take care of most browsers with
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="images/youricon.ico">
<link rel="icon" href="images/youricon.ico" type="image/ico">
You might want to read http://www.favicon.com/, although they're
selling stuff.

Hi all,
I'm supposed to be created some icon files for work
and I'm having problems finding the size requirements.
These icons are to be used on a PC but the example
sized file I need to actually locate is on a Mac. The
icon that I'm actually looking for isn't the standard
desktop/alias icon, its the little image in the bar at
the top of the window that has the window name/program
name in it. I don't now what this is called so my
terminology is not going to be of much help to anyone
so I hope I am describing this ok. Not all programs
have them, the ones I've noticed them in on this Mac
are Microsoft Word- a little word document icon
currently, there is an @ symbol on the Internet
Explorer bar, Image Ready has them on some of my files
and so on.
This is the very outside frame, the one that you can
use to resize windows, and has the buttons to close
and maximise/restore windows.
What I need to do is locate one of these image files,
that go in the bar, and get the sizes for it so I can
try and find out why the icons I have made aren't
working. One keeps getting part of it cut off and then
is strecthed to make up for the cut off area. They're
all square icons, saved out in Graphics Converter as a
Windows icon file, a .ico file. Only one of them is
getting cropped and stretched when its being used even
though its the same dimensions and format as the
others. If I can just locate the file on the Mac, the
ones they sent from the PC are .exe files and I can't
open them, I can get a fair idea of what size it needs
to be because I'm guessing the microsoft programs all
have similar icon sizes for Mac OS and Windows.
If someone could tell me what the file extension for a
Mac icon in that top bar is then I should be able to
find it, but without the file extension or a name of
one of the icon files I don't stand a chance of
locating it any time in the next month.
I thought a software developer or someone similar on
the list might know.
Kind regards,
Kelly Duffy
