At the end of last week I saw on Versiontracker that HP had released an updated printer driver (2.3.1) for use under OS X 10.2.x & 10.3, and being the eager person I am I promptly downloaded and installed the new software.
Next day I go to print something, and a dialog box comes up saying that the Black Ink Cartridge is empty. Pull the cartridge out - feels nearly full!!, and I only replaced in recently. The day after that I have time to sit down and try and get things working. I decide to open HP Deskjet Utility and choose "Check Ink Levels", which displays an error message saying that there was an error when it tried to read the Ink Levels. (Gears grinding) The printer worked with version 2.1 of the printer driver. The printer stopped working with version 2.3.1 of the printer driver. (More Grinding of Gears) Uninstall version 2.3.1 Download and re-install version 2.1 (Hold Breath) Lo and behold, the ink cartridge is just about full and the printer works again. You never know, one day they will surprise us and get something right the first time (post beta of course). Hope this saves someone some headaches!! Regards Daniel
