D-Link 300 and have put in the required info.

My problem has now changed as I can get connected periodically but
can't staty connected when the computer is put to sleep or is left
for a while.

The D-Link 300 won't necessarily stay connected when the computer is asleep. The D-Link 300+ includes its own PPPoE and PPPoA client so that the modem can remain connected when the computer is asleep.

Is it possible that Ethernet cables can 'get corrupted'or become
faulty?

Yes, if you can see physical damage to the cable, or if it's been stretched, replace it. If not, it's probably not likely to be the problem, given that you've just changed something else major (in this case, your ISP).

Thanks,
Shay
