Can anyone advise on this?

I have been using my 333 bronze powerbook (running 9.2.2) with an external 17" Apple monitor and USB keyboard and mouse. It is ideal for me to be able to move from one setup to the other during work ie sometimes directly entering data on the laptop, and typing (letters etc) on the main keyboard and monitor at other times.

The computer always runs slower with a monitor attached - particularly Appleworks and others. Every window or screen redraw is slowed and happens TWICE when the monitor is attached, and scrolling down a pulldown window is also much slower.

Does anyone know why this happens, and is it likely to be different if I get a different monitor eg flat panel one? Or will I be faced with the same thing again?

Thanks -
