Hi Mac,
Mactracker seems to say this was a 2001 model and there are 2 choices.
One was dual USB and initial OS was 9.1 & 10.0.3
the other has initial OS of 9.2 & 10.1
The OS9.2 iBook probably won't take 9.1 anyway
and the older model I would guess that the Hard Drive drivers have been
updated
and that might be what is stopping you installing 9.1
I have sent pix of the Mactracker info direct

Hi wamuggers on this bright Sunday morning, it's good to be alive :-)
I have a Laptop iBook 500/256 running 10.3.3 without OS 9.x
installed.
I wish to install it. When I set start up disk in prefs to the
installer disk and attempt to do so I get 'Bus error' and i am
recommended to start with Shift key down. I do so, get the
'extensions
off' sign but still get the same recommendation to start with shift
key down. Can anyone help me to sort the problem out.
TIA

Do you have the original install disks for the iBook? You will find
that
9.1 won't work on that model, so that is why you are getting a bus
error.
You will probably need to use the installer disks that came with the
iBook,
which may have had a version of 9.2.
