If you use fink, you may well be able to use 'tiffsplit' from the libtiff package to do it - I've had success splitting scanned legal documents and faxes with it in the past. 'tiffsplit' is a command line program that you'd need to use from the Terminal, but IIRC it's pretty trivial. Actually, libtiff could well be included in OS-X already. Open the Terminal and type "tiffsplit" and the enter key. If it's installed, you'll see something like: usage: tiffsplit input.tif [prefix] and if not, you'll get an error message.
