Michael,
It sounds as though you may have created a new user account when you
installed the Panther upgrade. If this is the case, you will now need to
change the owner of your "old" user account files to your "new" user
account. You should be able to do this file by file using the Get info
dialogue, or as a batch using Terminal.
sudo find / -user "old" -exec chown "new" {} \;
You will need to substitute your "old" and "new" user account names.
