It sounds to me like there's a fair chance the screen - or the system power supply - is on the way out. I'm currently getting disturbing 'snack' sounds from one of the eMacs at work, accompanied by a screen ripple. Too bad really, as they're astonishingly nice displays for cheap 17" jobs. It looks like Apple has done some funny business to make OS/X rendering look better on the shadow mask monitor ... and it sure has worked. -- Craig Ringer
