I've tried contacting the SpeedTouch people about this, with no success.

I have a client with an iBook 500 who applied for an ADSL account with Telstra. She called me to get it all working, because the Telstra guy couldn't do it (IT'S A MAC!!). Telstra supplied her with an Alcatel SpeedTouch 570 802.11b wireless modem (has Mac drivers), together with a little Netgear USB Wireless dongle thingy, which has no Mac drivers at all, but the computer does have an Airport card in it. Problem is, the airport card is not picking up anything useful from the modem, even from just a few feet away.

The tech support at Telstra was useless, especially when I used the M word. I was told in no uncertain terms that it Telstra only supports Windows XP with this equipment. They definitely so not provide support for the Mac. When I asked why the Telstra guy hasn't explained this in the first place, he became even more dismissive.

I've got the client onto her ADSL account using a long length of Cat 5 cable to give a bit of mobility, but obviously we want to get past this. Has anyone had experience with the gear in question?

iBook is running Panther 10.3.5 with 384 Mb of RAM.
