antivirus to do an update (the preinstall virus def file was 3 months
old). 15 minutes after connecting to the internet I ran the updated
anti virus software and it found 4 Worm/Trojans.

For the poor PC users among us (and our friends); along with Firefox I
advise the use of AVG antivirus over Norton$ as it does actually care
about little, merely anoying trojans etc whereas norton ignores some as
they arent 'viruses', just annoying:(
To finish the job, Zonealarm firewall, easy enough for novices to use.
The lack of an effective firewall will always allow a PC to re-infect
itself, as the article states, immediately. It will still download
gremlins but they are then trapped and unable to phone home.
All these are Karma (I think:) and $ FREE!
Dont tell potential switchers of course ;) A little knowledge could be a
dangerous thing...
Should we have a 'Sub-MUG' for those of us who have to use/own/endure
PCs, any suggestions, horrified shrieks or ideas?
Cheers
