"Virus warnings" are almost invariably fake, or hoaxes designed to trick you into damaging your system. If you can't confirm it on one of the AV vendors websites, it's probably not worth informing folks of. If you can confirm it on one of the AV vendors websites, folks probably already know about it so it's not worth passing on. In other words, forwarding "virus warning" emails is generally not overly helpful and can be harmful if it's a hoax or phishing attack. In this case, I don't see anything on Symantec or McAfee's sites, and the message sounds fake, so I'm not inclined to get in a fuss. If you use more secure software and are careful (eg not Outlook / Outlook Express, use a firewall, don't open attachments, etc) it shouldn't affect you even if it _is_ real. > I'm sure most people, like myself, > would rather receive this notice 25 times than not at all. -- Craig Ringer
