Dont know about anything within Mail ... but...
Try going to User- Library - Mail - mailboxes ....
Find your mail box and Duplicate it ......
Drag out the copy .. and compress it with something like Stuffit
then Unstuff it
drag it back into the same location
and see if you can read it ?
Does that do what you want to do ?
Be careful about the attachments ...
are they actually in the Mailbox or have they been saved elsewhere
