Hi Robert and Keith, Many thanks for the advice. You both pointed to the one thing that made me hesitate - there's no firm indication it is for my machine. I bought the G5 in December 03, when Apple still had a single-processor G5 as the entry level, followed by my model and then the top of the line faster processors. I am definitely not going to update the firmware with this download, and better I'll trash it!! I will wait for Software Update to give me the prompt instead.
