Hey Peoples,
I am looking for a 3D program for my iBook 1.2GHz. I'm still looking
but I also wanted to share my story with you =)
After doing a search on Google, i found some rather interesting
comments and articles about 3D Applications on the PPC platform.
Having not used 3D Appz for a long time ago (probably 2 years or more).
And from what I have heard people are mainly using Maya, Bryce or
Cinema 4D. I HAD Bryce 5 for my Windows box, but I really don't want to
use the Windows box for designing 3D models. I just don't like the way
Window$ appz run when handling large files, tends to be really unstable
and slow. So off I went, like a good little boyscout into the Google
Mountains looking for some 3D goodness ;) Here is what I found:
Bryce: A quick google search uncovers that Corel stopped development of
Bryce 5 in 2003 for the Mac...Great!
Dissapointingly the Windows version still exists though.
Ray Dream Studio: Wasn't on my search list, mainly because I haven't
heard anything about it in years. When I was in year 9 in high school,
the OS 8.x Macs we had then were running Ray Dream, after a month of
using it our school upgraded to Bryce. So I didn't bother looking =)
Maya: Googling turned up a document from the Wired site, entitled
"Maya: Doomed on OS X" -
http://wired.com/news/business/0,1367,48193,00.html
The article was from late 2001, so it may be obsolete but it wasn't
looking too good for Mac 3D Apps in general, so I kept looking.
Cinema 4D:Found something on a review site saying: CINEMA 4D has won
the 3D Design Software Labs Test in MacUser, beating Maya and
LightWave......

So after sifting through the web it looks like Cinema 4D might be the
go.
But I would really like to know what your opinion is. Especially if you
are a regular Mac 3D guy/girl. Hmmm not sure if hardware is a big deal
and I hope my 3D card is gonna be good enough, but incase the hardware
matters, here is what I plan on running it on:
* iBook G4, 1.2GHz, 512MB DDR, 60GB HD (plus a Linux server with 200GB
storage), 32MB ATI Radeon. OS X 10.3.7.
Let me know also if you think my hardware will be good enough.
Thanks!!
