Q. Is php/SQL the go?
Personally I use MySQL and PHP. Definitely a powerful combination, and widely used, so there's lots of docs and tutorials available.
If you have to install PHP I'd recommend the precompiled binaries from Mark Liyanage as he's also compiled in some other goodies.
