Does "unencrypted" mean home produced DVDs?

Yes. Or commercial unencrypted DVD's.

you would by surprised just how may DVD's don' have encryption... even with the licensed and made in Australia disks most music and Asian (Hong Kong/Japanese/Korean/Indian etc) titles don't seem to have it. I've been able to back up most of my anime and Hong Kong action DVD's just with Toast.

I tend not to watch/buy US movies so I can't speak from experience for those sort of titles though.

I'd expect that encryption requires licensing of the encryption technology, which isn't going to be cheap if you're some small production house.

Have fun,
Shay
