Having a quick peek at the site, it looks like it's running on a Windows 2000 box (Microsoft-IIS/5.0), and making use of Active server pages. I'm guessing this is the root of the "compatibility problem". It is true that some Mac browsers have the occasional problem interacting with ASP scripts.

That said, it _should_ all work fine with IE5 at the very least... And it should also all work better being served from 2003 server. Your web hosting provider should be able to help...

Personally I'd be looking to "switch" to an open-source solution - like PHP/mySQL.
(or even better move to a Mac or even a Linux server)
A lot less likely to run into incompatibility issues, and I'd guess there would be more web developers with PHP skills than ASP?

Any comments would be appreciated please.
Is this really an insurmountable problem?
Do you know of any decent web developers, who could provide such a
guarantee?

I don't know about guarantee's, but you should be able to specify Mac OS's and browsers as part of the testing requirements to be included in the quote. At least pick a web developer who's got a Mac or two on site to test with!
(or at least one who can generate valid html....
