Another chapter in my iPod drama.. this one at least has a happy ending....

Maybe I am the blind Apple brand slave that I'd like to think I'm not but I purchased a NoS iPod Mini (4GB model silver $220 with academic discount) to replace my 15GB iPod that had fatal screen failure a few months ago reducing it's role down to being a small FireWire drive...

on the idea that nothing to lose means anything is a gain I took a deep breath and disassembled my old iPod and found a screw that should have been holding the logic board in place had dropped down in to the front of the case (either on assembly line or on a tech's desk) and become wedged under the screen's ribbon cable slightly lifting it (and therefor disconnecting) some of the contacts.

a very light application of super glue and splinting/bulking up with some electrical tape to maintain adequate pressure on the ribbon's contacts and now it's running good as new... in fact better as the screen issue was evident as an intermittent problem from day 1 of ownership.

having ventured in to the inner workings of the iPod I think my next project maybe giving it a battery upgrade to a 2000MA + unit or maybe a hard disk upgrade :) or painting it from the inside :)
