There is a tip on Macintouch today about the order of connecting
your PB AC adapter. Apparently you should connect the adapter to the
electric outlet before connecting it to the PB. Doesn't say anything
about the disconnection order. Perhaps you need to buy the book.

Well, it sounds sensible to me. I'd rather not plug the adapter into
my laptop and then send a power spike into it by plugging in the
adapter to the wall socket.
