9 Won't Start in X

Hi,
I have just installed Panther on the older dv imac but when you go to 
run a OS 9 program, it tries to open and fails. I can switch start up 
disks and that works fine,  but I can't seem to get 9 to stay open 
inside X. What have I done wrong?
