Their is no simple solution, although flip4mac supposedly does this,
but cost $$$. I have had success with ffmpegx, a bit of effort required
to install.

Also two programs from Kai Softtronics forty-twoDVD-VXplus amd MPplus
or something have worked occasionally, but again $$ although not too
many, these I have used mainly to strip dvd's.
and for creating DV DropDV

The simplest solution is to give files back to original owner and
suggest something QT compatible or if you have access to WinBlows
machine then do conversions yourself, a myriad of choices their, but no
simple solution on PC or Mac. DVD SP is looking at this problem, but
when it eventuates, mmm, comes down to licensing of codecs and whom
owns or uses what??
In the past I have used a illegitimate copy of premier on a WinXP
machine to achieve an editable option for FCP or DVDSP when in a really
tight time frame to conclude a project.
Also remember it is Microsoft's mpeg4 format so once it is decoded it
is not going to have much information to create, similar to mpeg4 with
Quicktime.
So, obtain original DV source from friend or a converted QT file,
otherwise Premier scenario offers a good compromise. Another solution
get them to create the iso / img from their source and then burn dvd,
but if you have to edit or author DvD not much use.

Hello WAMUGgers,
A friend has asked me to burn a DVD of a Windows Media Video he has
made, so he can play it on his TV.
How can I convert a .wmv to .dv or mpeg2 so I can accomplish this task
please?
Quicktime Pro won't, Toast 6 won't.
Many thanks for any help.
