David, I have just finished converting all of my old LPs to CDs, using the $90 Dick Smith turntable/preamp.
Used CD Spin Doctor that comes with Toast 6.0 to do the recording and break the recording into tracks. Then burnt CD with Toast. All on a 300MHz B/W G3 Worked every time.
