So Phil... did you have to sell the Husky to pay for the Mazda? ;)
interesting to go through the Ross's catalog - for example MOST of
the iBooks are broken/faulty/dead including broken screens, dead CD
drives, broken or no power supply, dead batteries etc etc. some have
multiple faults and problems so keep that in mind when selecting
items to bid on and setting your maximum bid.
the thing to so at auctions is to set a maximum TOTAL price you are
willing to pay for an item
stick to this DO NOT go over it remember this is the MAXIMUM TOTAL
price that you have decided on, start thinking "it's just $10" more
and you end up competing against a gambler/some one who has an issue
with losing let these people win the first few items and sit back
until the next item you want comes up.
write down this maximum price on the catalogue next to the item
number - then next to that in BIGGER numbers the ACTUAL bid price
that corresponds to that total price so you don't mess up/forget.
remember if you walk away without buying the item you haven't lost
anything except the regret of spending to much money on it
So, at the end of the auction, add 10% to your purchase cost for GST. On top
of that, add the 10% buyers premium.
All up... You get slugged an extra 20% on the price said at the fall of the
hammer. Not as attractive as things first seem. Auctions like at Curtin
certainly seem
You add the GST after the buyers premium , so its actually an
increase of 21% .
That is getting close to a quarter extra.
eg :- A final bid of .... $360 gets close to but under
$450 . (436)
Not such a bargain after all !
And the really fun part is trying to calculate all this in your head
in the two to three seconds in which you have to decide whether to
bid or not, before the auctioneer bangs the hammer.
Regards,
Phil
(who accidentally bought a Mazda 626 car a couple of weeks ago by
waving his hand at the wrong time at an auction. Oh well, turns out
that it does drive pretty well.)
