Duke Rethinks iPod Project
Apple's distinctive iPod may not be quite so commonplace at Duke
University next year, as the school has decided to scale back its
first-ever study of the use of these portable music players in
classroom settings. All freshmen at Duke this year received a free
iPod. Next year, the distribution will be limited to students in select
classes. (Duke spent $500,000 on this year's pilot.) Preliminary
findings indicate that an audio-recording option was the most useful
capability and that the technology was most useful in music or language
instruction, which feature a high level of audio content. Read more in
