Am I doing something wrong, or is Micro$oft protecting Windows? 1 I create a M$ Word document that has imbedded in amongst the text some Adobe PhotoShop .psd bitmaps and Adobe Illustrator .ai vector images.
2 Print the M$ Word document to a PostScript laser. The images are fuzzy, as if the printer was using 72dpi preview images. 3 Print the M$ Word document to disk as an .eps file. 4 I use Adobe Acrobat Distiller to convert the .eps file into a .pdf file. 5 I print the resulting .eps file on a PostScript laser printer from my Mac. The images are still fuzzy, as if the printer was using 72dpi preview images. 6 I take the M$ Word file, as well as my .pdf file, to work, where I am forced to use a Wintel computer. 7 I print the .pdf file on the work Wintel box to a PostScript laser printer. Still the fuzzy images. 8 I then print the M$ Word document to disk on the Wintel machine. 9 I bring home the resulting .prn file and use the same Adobe Acrobat Distiller, with exactly the same settings, to convert the .prn file into a .pdf file. 10 I print the resulting .pdf file on both my home and my work laser printers, and get the expected good resolution on all images. 11 When I carry out steps 1 to 5, but use something like Adobe Indesign, instead of M$ Word, to produce the .eps file, then the resulting .pdf prints to full resolution. This seems to eliminate Adobe Acrobat Distiller, my printer driver, and my distiller settings, as the source of grief. 12 I have tried with linked, rather than imbedded images. Same problem. Why do I get low resolution images when I produce the .pdf file wholly on my Mac, while I get what I expected when I print the same document to disk on a Wintel box?
