Hi All WAMUGgers

I'm loath to enter into the debate regarding Apple's announced progression from Motorola and IBM to Intel, but as you know, sometimes it's hard to bite one's tongue (or index finger ;-))

I've hardly the time to read all the recent emails in-depth, so will try to keep this message succinct.

My lovely new G4 Powerbook runs Tiger beautifully. Like the first Powerbook I owned, a very underestimated 165c, I know I'll never realise its full potential, or that of the applications installed on it. One day however I may decide to replace it.

From time to time I've gone into battle with the 'non-believers' about the virtues of Apple compared with Microsoft. Probably I have clouded Microsoft with Intel.

I have been puzzled in this context by the general use of the term 'PC', representing 'personal computer', of which the Powerbook is a beautiful example.

I have been puzzled by reference to 'IBM compatible' computers, considering that the G-series processors are built by, or have been designed by, IBM.

One thing I'll certainly need to be cautious of from now on is in my use of a stirring little icon based on Intel's 'Intel Inside' theme; one I admit to have used to stir my Microsoft colleagues from time to time.

My use of the term 'Idiot Outside' will still reflect my paultry ability to use the Powerbook, regardless of processor, to the extent of knowledge or ability anywhere closely resembling that of the gifted people who designed and built the machine, its software and its fantastic applications.

I'm certainly not going to let Apple's processor decision stop me from enjoying my Powerbook. I somehow suspect that should I decide to upgrade in two or three year's time, Apple's product then will be equally as attractive, and possibly even more so.

Regards

Reg
