Yeah. The FTP protocol is, frankly, pretty poor too. It's just not made for the modern Internet, with its hideous mess of intentionally non- standards-compliant software (firewalls) and bizarre routing like NAT. That said, I agree it'd be nice to have some better documentation on how to get it working properly. -- Craig Ringer
