on the battery there is a button and a set of lights - first light
is orange and the others are green - if the orange one flashes while
it's charging but non of the green ones do (sorry don't have either
of my iBooks with me right now - you may have to press the button)
then the battery has given up the ghost and needs replacing - Three
years is regarded as about the time when Lithium Ion batteries start
to pack it in (700Mhz iBooks were introduced mid 2002 and phased out
early/mid 2003).
You will be pleased to know that the same battery that fits in the
current G4 iBooks will work on the G3's so no issue getting it. Plus
you get a longer charge life out of the newer batteries. Conversely
you could get a 3rd party battery that will last (charge wise) even
longer.
Hi all,
I've got a 700mhz G3 iBook here (256 megs o' RAM, OS 10.4.1
installed) - system profiler says there's a battery installed, but
that it isn't charging (despite being plugged into the mains).
Evidence to suggest SP is telling the truth? every time I unplug the
sucker the machine turns off and resets the date & time.
I was going to take it to an Apple store and see if they have a
replacement battery I can test it with ... The mains adaptor is
glowing orange instead of green - is that further confirmation it
isn't charging?
Cheers,
Tobes.
