Hi,
I bit the bullet this week and purchased a 14inch ibook. My first
foray into
OSX and I would like to know what utilities and extra software that
people
would recommend.
X11 and Xcode2 on OS X install Disks.
Stuffit used to be an essential, not so since Tiger, as Apples
default compression program is zip and has Archive with other
niceties system wide and accessible. Still download the freebie as
their are a lot of stuffit files out there.
I have made myself a promise that no microsoft software will go
onto this
machine (I get enough of it at work).
Also what good system repair software is there - I use to live by
Tech tools
and would now love a replacement.
Cocktail: This is an essential utility it does not cost, but
advisable. This will simplify Advanced Unix functions, cleanup and
daily cron jobs (log rotates, database updates and system cleanups)
which with a iBook is a necessity as it is not on 24/7 plus optimise
system.
Diskwarrior ??? Depends what machine does as it is a good de-
fragmentation utility, but also handy in case of disk failure which
may assist in warning it is going to happen?
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Then I would suggest just use OS X checking out help, read me's and
Apples web sites for tutorials as well as discussion groups, anything
you want to do try and you will be surprised.
Cheers!
