iTunes does import AIFF it is the non-compressed audio file on a CD.
Drag and Drop into iTunes.

Audacity does MP3 export also.

AIFF should be 16bit and 44100Hz Standard CD format. Yes one can go higher, see below!

If you have QT pro seriously experiment with ideas from my last post you will be surprised.
QT 6 has a Ogg Vorbis plugin that works, not sure it does with 7?
