Alternately you could use the AV outputs from the VCR to connect to
the AV inputs of the G3.
You would then need something (?) to capture the video on the G3
(can't help you there as I only know about iMovie and that is
digital...)
to create a QT/avi movie which you can add to a DVD using Toast.
If you had a EyeTV you could use the AV inputs to capture the video
and edit it in the EyeTV application and again using Toast you
can burn to DVD...
You will get much more footage on a DVD using QT Movie/Toast compared
to iMovie/iDVD but the quality won't be as good.
Depends how much time you wish to spend on the project and how
important the footage is !!!
Using a external burner, you will need to install patchburn if you
want to use iDVD as it normally only sees internal drives... (part of
iLife and not a free download)
There are a few ways to do it really....

Hi,
Can any person direct me to the suitable software for
converting my old analog video cassettes to Digital for uploading
on to DVD.
I have an old beige G3 mini tower with adequate ram and hard
drive space running 10.2.6 with a suitable AV card installed. I
also have a G4 MacMini and LaCie DVD burner.
This topic must have been covered before but any help would be
appreciated.

Hi John,
Basically you need a camcorder to record to from the VHS, then
import the footage into iMovie, edit it and then import the edited
movie into iDVD to make a DVD.
You connect VHS to Camcorder via S video connector making sure to
connect yellow and red(s). Then just record from vhs to camcorder,
this creates a digital signal which is required to edit in iMovie
or FCP then burn via iDvD or DvD Studio.
