Did you get a reply? I was going to dig out some of my old PageMaker files to see what the format was like, because if the text is simple enough you might be able to extract it (without formatting) using the `strings` utility on the command line. Otherwise, there are probably few people on this list (myself included) who may still have access to PageMaker 5.0, 6.0 and 6.5 if those would be old enough to read your old files.
