work, must turn off at wall then restart. Runs OK until need to switch

Friend is about to lose abundant sanity. Please help!
Dear Edward,
You don't say what friend has done for this problem ! ?
Has Apple Disk Utility ... Disk Repair .... been run and did it give
an ALL CLear result ?
Then has Permissions Verify and Repair been run ?
If either says there is trouble that cannot be repaired , Disk Warrior
has been known
to be helpful ..NOTE : You will need the CORRECT version for
Tiger .
After shown faults have been cleared, has an Archive and Instal been
tried ?
Yes I know you said upgrade 10.3.8 to 10.4 , but 10.3.8 was a good
version
with very few problems.
I guess then you are looking at either a third party Application
software conflict,
or a hardware fault !
Is there more than 1 stick of Ram ? Take out some and run on one
stick of Ram ?
Then try the other Ram in turn on it's own .
Take care to avoid Static Electricity doing this. There is a procedure
.
If in doubt refer to somebody with experience.
Have fun
