Hi Tony,

On one Powerbook, restart and hold down the 'T' key. When you see a floating FireWire symbol, plug in the other Powerbook. The first Powerbook's hard drive should pop up on the desktop.

Also, if you are running a late version of 10.3 or 10.4, you can also network via FireWire. have a look in System Preferences --> Network.
