I use Gmail as my main account. It's reliable, and I love the search feature.
I have no privacy concerns either, even if someone did see my inbox all they'd get bored pretty quickly. I've actually found some of the tailored ads useful! There's also a voice-chat program that works with your Gmail address, but it's currently Windows only. However, it might be new enough that a Mac version could be in the making.
