I doubt this will worry many Windoze users more than the existing list
of XP security fixes that went wrong; those that have been through the
sp2 mill (which was basically a Claytons version upgrade) won't find
this very daunting and those that remain clueless about patching
Windoze won't see any difference in their daily puter performance - it
still won't run, or they yet again call a tech.
Garry Barker is a baked-on Mac fan and you can expect that kind of
hyperbole from him.
"However, Microsoft now says that installing the patch can cause
serious problems. Users could be locked out of their PCs, the Windows
Firewall could be stalled, certain applications could be stopped from
running or installing and the network connections folder could be
emptied.
Microsoft is now working on fixing the fix. Meantime, they say,
apparently with full seriousness that even if users experience
trouble caused by the patch they will be protected."
At least MS tries to put lippie on the pig.
The Mac community appears to be much better at keeping stum out in the
wide world about de facto OS X beta upgrades.
Or is it just that ten percent of bugger all installations needing
major fixing is not newsworthy?
Disclaimer: I claim my OS X drivers license now after a year on my Ps.
I love it more than I can describe and hate XP more each time I have
to use it.
