first thing to note is that iPhoto DOES keep files with duplicate file names so it may look like you have multiple copies of the same file.

this is because iPhoto keeps a copy of the original unedited image of any any photo you edit within iPhoto in anyway you probably don't want to delete the original unless you have already backed it up to at least one read only media (ie CD-R DVD-R) - I back mine up to BOTH CD-R and to an external hard-disk

quick and easiest way if you have aonly a few hundred photos (without downloading other software)is to produce a text file of what is in your iphoto library is to open the terminal and assuming your using default name for iPhoto library:

type (without quotes and <return> the return key)

"cd Pictures/iphoto" <return>

"ls -R > photolist.txt" <return>

exit terminal then go in to finder and open (or import) the newly created text file "photolist.txt" in to word or excel or BBedit or what ever other program you want to use to sort and then search for multilple instances of the filename.

NOTE: the ls comand is = LS in lowercase)

I have photo files in a number of folders and sub folders and I would like to get a text file of file names of certain folders so I can check if I have duplicate files of images.

Could anyone tell me if this can be done? I tried Versiontracker but I couldn't figure out the right serch criteria.

Thanks,

James Rutherford
